Statement on the case of Dr Abbas Khan

Chuka Umunna, MP for the Streatham constituency, has made the following statement regarding the case of Dr Abbas Khan, his constituent:

“I was contacted at the start of this week by the family of Dr Abbas Khan, a constituent of mine missing in Syria, believed detained. As a matter of course, I wrote immediately and urgently to the Secretary of State for the Foreign Office, William Hague, and I and my office remain in daily contact with the FCO and the family.

“I know that a huge number of people in the community are working and praying for his safe return.

“As Dr Khan’s local MP, I am doing all I can to ensure Dr Khan’s safe return to the UK and to his family, and I will continue to scrutinise the work the UK Government is doing to bring him home. I want Dr Khan home as quickly as possible, and my thoughts remain with his family and friends at this difficult time.”
