St Michael’s Fellowship Reception

Chuka hosted a Reception in the House of Commons to honour and showcase St Michael’s Fellowship, a Streatham-based charity which works with disadvantaged families in Lambeth, and across London and the UK.

St Michael’s works with young parents who have extremely complex histories – which may include neglect and abuse in their own childhood, domestic violence, substance misuse, psychological ill health and learning disabilities - working to break cycles of deprivation and underachievement and to give children the best possible chance in life.

The evening provided an opportunity to hear from young parents and others about the extraordinary outcomes St Michael’s early intervention and family support work achieves with marginalised families, often against the odds.

Speaking at the event, Chuka said: “Having served as patron of St Michael’s for many years, I have seen first-hand the immensely positive impact of their work, successfully reaching out to disadvantaged groups and helping to transform the lives of countless young families, often when there is precious little alternative support available.”
