Chuka joined a panel of representatives from the transport sector and local government for Streatham Action’s public meeting on Streatham’s Transport infrastructure. Questions from the audience focused on the poor service provided by Southern Rail and Thameslink, which serve all three of Streatham’s stations.
Chuka said: “One of the most important issues to my constituents is the utterly appalling service provided by Southern and Thameslink to my constituents and commuters across south London – unsurprisingly, some attendees for tonight’s public meeting were late due to cancelled or delayed trains.
“We’re sick of excuse after excuse. I believe that Southern to be stripped of its franchise and control transferred to Transport for London. I have been calling for this to happen immediately, backed by Lambeth Council and Mayor of London Sadiq Khan among many others.”
